Hotel Information
Workshop site
The workshop will take place on the main quad of the University of Chicago. All sessions will be held in room 251 of Ryerson Hall, and refreshments will be provided in the tea room on the 2nd floor of Eckhart Hall. The two buildings are adjacent, and are connected on the upper floors.
Hotel Information
We have reserved a block of rooms at the Ramada Lake Shore Chicago under the name "Soare Conference" at a special rate of $99/night. To book a single or double room under this rate, please call the Ramada at (773) 288-5800 before April 12, 2011.
Another option is the International House, which offers guest rooms for $80/night or dorm rooms for $65/night (neither, apparently, with its own bathroom). Reservations can be made through their website, or by calling (773) 753-2270.
The Ramada is located a little under two miles from the meeting site. If you prefer not to walk, the #172 city bus stops one block south of the Ramada, at Hyde Park & East End, and one block east of the workshop site, at Woodlawn & 58th. The southbound bus will take you from the Ramada to campus, and the northbound bus will take you back. Both directions run every 15-30 minutes depending on the day (every 30 min on the weekend). For a bus schedule, click here.
The I-House is located half a mile from campus.
Transportation
There are two airports serving Chicago, of which Midway Airport is closer to the University of Chicago than O'Hare Airport.
If you prefer to go by taxi, there should be no trouble getting one at either airport on your way in, and your hotel can call you one on your way out or you can do so directly by calling (312) 829-4222. You can also take the Omega Airport Shuttle service to or from either airport, but you must make a reservation 24 hours in advance by calling (773) 734-6688.
Both airports are easily reachable by public transit: the #55 city bus has stops along 55th Street, just north of campus, and the westbound will take you to Midway; to get to O'Hare, you need to take the airport-bound Blue Line train from downtown. Visit the CTA website, where you can plan out either trip in detail.
