Search Tools for General Research
-
(1) The Alta Vista Search Engine, URL
http://www.altavista.digital.com/.
I can find just about anything using this search engine. It's
just a matter or learning how to use the right keywords. It has
a clickable help button to help you learn how to refine your
searches.
-
(2) B.J. Pinchbeck's Homework Helper, URL
http://www.bjpinchbeck.com.
Don't be thrown by the fact that this site starts off by saying
that it was set up by a nine year old (and his Dad). It is an
amazing site with lists of links for Search Engines | Reference
| News and Current Events | Math and Science | Social Studies |
English | History | Playtime | Foreign Languages & Music. It is
not by any means a "kiddie" site.
-
(3) GPO Access, URL
http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/
_The_ site for government publications of any type.
-
(4) The Internet Sleuth, URL
http://www.isleuth.com/
Another search engine. The best feature though is that under
the search template you'll find a list of subjects which are
then broken down into subcatagories. Click on one of these and
it takes you too a whole page of search engines for that
particular subject and you can do a multiple search on several
search engines at once.
-
(5) POINTReview: The Written Word on Web Culture, URL
http://www.pointcom.com/
Lists sites by subject and you can choose to see only the sites
rated in the Top 5% (for content and usefulness) category.
-
(6) The ULTIMATE Homepage Index!, URL
http://zensoft.com/pages/
A site I use very often! You type in what you're looking for
and it compiles a home page for you. The page you get consists
of links to the search results for that subject on all the major
search engines. You really have to go in an play with this one
to appreciate it. It is amazing!!
-
(7) Internet Educational Resources, URL
http://mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us
Links to all sorts of writing and communications sites!!
-
(8) EDU2 : Education and Courses, URL
http://www.wco.com/~ejia/EDU/eduold.htm
Little known but very useful site. Another one that is broken
down by subject.
-
(8a) ARTFL Project: ROGET'S Thesaurus Search Form
-
(9) Cyber Library, URL
http://mbhs.bergtraum.k12.ny.us/
Lots of information on the Internet and the laws of Cyberspace.
And last but certainly not least -
-
AMICUS Web, URL
http://amicus.nlc-bnc.ca:80/aaweb/amilogine.htm?
From
National Library of Canada, a bibliographic research tool.
-
(10) History Net, URL
http://www.TheHistoryNet.com/
Since everything that's happened up until this very minute is
history, this site pretty well covers it all. ;)
My (Henry) additions:
from:

No one is to stone anyone until I blow this whistle, even, and I want
to make this perfectly clear, even if they do say "Jehovah".
