Most people take a fair amount of math during their early schooling.  Often they are told that this subject is very good for them and leads to successful careers.  Rarely, however, is math actually used in the rest of the curriculum.  In this set of mini-essays I discuss what I think of as applied math and how it fits in with the undergraduate curriculum and beyond.
