V4 Valve Adjustment - Step Six

STEP SIX: Set the Clearance

tools on head Here you see the wrench in place ready to loosen the locknut. That nice offset gives clearance over the cylinder head, and the long handle lets you apply enough torque by hand.
screwdriver on adjuster After loosening the locknut, use a screwdriver to tighten or loosen the threaded tappet adjuster as needed. Hold the locknut in place with the wrench. Don't forget that you must use two feeler gauges at once so that the rocker arm doesn't tilt when you're making measurements/adjustments. Leave the feeler gauges in place while doing this.

setting clearance Switching back to the front right cylinder for the sake of viewing angle again, you can see the person's right hand holding the feeler gauge in place while the left hand turns the adjuster with the screwdriver. (The big black stripe to the right of the person's hands is just a shadow caused by the fork leg in front of the camera flash.)

Test the feel of the clearance again after making your change, then tighten the locknut. You need to hold the adjuster in position carefully with the screwdriver so that it does not turn while you tighten the locknut. Test the feel of the clearance again after the locknut is tight to make sure it didn't slip.
