Local information


Please find below some information regarding navigation, transportation, food options, and wifi connectivity. (For easy reference, some information posted earlier under other tabs has been duplicated below.)

Maps, directions, local transportation

  • For local transportation, you can use public transportation, Uber, or taxi (Waterloo Taxi: 1-519-888-7777, United Taxi: 1-519-888-9999).
    Public transportation is provided by the Grand River Transit (GRT) Authority. The ION light-rail transit (LRT) system is particularly convenient for connections between UW, Uptown Waterloo (the area near the Delta Hotel) and downtown Kitchener. GRT also has an extensive bus network.

Food options

A number of food options are available in and around campus, as well as in the region of Waterloo-Kitchener more generally. Away from campus, Uptown Waterloo and downtown Kitchener have a variety of food and drink options including restaurants, cafes, bars, and pubs.

Wifi

WiFi access on UW campus is via the Eduroam network. If you use Eduroam at your home university, then you will likely just be able to connect here.
Alternatively, you can obtain guest access quite conveniently via the UniversityofWaterloo network. At the time of connection, a guest account with limited-time access is set up with the information you provide. Here are instructions on how to avail of this.
